Insurance Is The Best Policy

Any of you who are currently drivers will be aware that it is law in the UK that every vehicle on the road has at the very least third party insurance. This covers liability to third parties, which includes cars, people, property damage and bodily injury but that is all. Most people in the UK make sure they have what is known as third party, fire and theft. This covers everything covered by third party insurance, but also covers you if your vehicle is destroyed by a fire. It doesn’t matter if the fire is caused by a fault in the car or if it is a malicious act, it will still be covered. It also covers you if the car is stolen. It doesn’t always cover vandalism. When you are looking into the insurance, it is best to discuss with the provider what they think you need. Some people for example may think they need comprehensive insurance, it is normally those with very valuable cars who get this cover as it includes pretty much anything.

Car insurance isn’t always completely comprehensive and prices can really vary from one car to the next. Any of the insurers out there, such as Aviva car insurance will be able to advise you about the rates and various other things you may worry about. It is definitely worth spending time shopping around for the best deal. If you have a modified car it can be particularly difficult to find suitable car insurance which is at a reasonable price. In general it costs more to get a modified car insured. This is because it’s likely to have a powerful engine, it will look souped up and it may have a great stereo or expensive alloy wheels. For many insurance companies the prospect of looking after a car like this is very unappealing.

If you do have a modified car it is perhaps worth bearing in mind a few things to help you get insured. Remember, you’re not allowed on the road without insurance so it is worth playing along with the insurers to be able to drive your beloved modified car. Be sensible about what you do to it, at the end of the day you may want to remember that the cheaper your car is, the cheaper the insurance will be. It may be a good idea to hold off on the over-the-top exteriors and interiors. The bigger your engine, again the more expensive the insurance will be. Finally make sure you tell your insurance provider exactly what you have done to your car. If your car is stolen or an accident occurs and you haven’t disclosed all the work, it is highly likely that your car will just not be covered.

Last night we recieved the following email from Bauer Media :

“Bauer Media has reluctantly taken the decision today to suspend the monthly publication of Max Power magazine and its accompanying website.

We anticipate that the February issue of Max Power, on sale 12th January 2011, will be the last issue in its current guise and will be a collectable super-sized issue celebrating modifying past and present. It will embrace all that is great within our scene and boast more feature cars than ever before. This really will be an event that’s not to be missed and a fitting celebration to the incredibly colourful, loud and irreverent history of Max Power.

It is our intention to keep the Max Power brand alive in the future with a series of “one shots” and special issues and some possible exciting new adventures. Keep your eyes peeled for future new projects and we will endeavour to keep you updated with all the latest news from the Max Power brand.

I’d like to personally thank you for your support of Max Power.

Mark Guest
Editor
Max Power”

I personally would like to wish all the staff at Max the best for the future and look forward to seeing how the MaxPower brand develops over the coming months.

All I can say is Bauer you have made a very bad decision!

All the best guys.

Have your say. . .

For Sale : Modified Car Club with 500 + Members and Includes 12 Months Web Hosting The new owner will be able to just take over with no hassle’s and will be able to just run with it.

Unfortunately due to personal circumstances I no longer have the time to run what has been a fantastic project for the last 4 years and would like to see it continue to be ran as a going concern.

This includes all that can be seen here including: forums, business directory, gallery’s, video gallerys, blog and much more and has taken over 100 design and development hours to produce. All sections of the website are totally integrated without bugs and run really well. There shouldn’t be any need for Programming knowledge to update the site and the forum’s (phpbb) are an open source community software with full guides on moderation etc available on the internet.

Both domains http://www.ukmodifiednetwork.co.uk and http://www.ukmodifiednetwork.net will be included in the sale and http://www.ukmnonline.co.uk (previous server name) will be included.

As I still have an interest in modified motors and the like im not asking for mega £££ I just really don’t have the time to update and upkeep the site. So as a ready to run club with 500+ Members and all the domains and bits im looking for offers in the region of £400.

If your genuinely interested please contact me via email admin@vostro.co.uk or alternatively use the contact page.

This is a well ranked website in the Usual Search Engine’s Google and Bing and ranks 1st for Modified Car Club, modified car shows 2010, modified car shows 2011 and many more and receives over 20’000 hits per month. (google analytics sept 2010)

The Golf Mk V is full of useful features. Most features are described in the owners manual but usually not explained to reveal the reason behind them. I strongly recommend you read it carefully to get the most out of your Mk V. However, here are some little bits of information I have noticed which are not mentioned in the manual. I have verified most in either my own or other peoples’ Mk 5 VW Golf’s

Convenience opening and closing of the car’s electric windows.

Convenience opening and closing of the car’s electric windows is where you can open or close all windows by holding down either the unlock or lock button on the remote. Whilst you need to continue to hold the unlock button in order to continue to open the windows, if closing the windows, you only need to hold down the lock button until the windows start to close. They will then continue to close fully by themselves.

Hold Unlock Button = Open Windows*

Hold Lock Button = Close Windows**

* You will need to hold the button until sequence is complete.

** you will only need to hold the button until the windows start to close you can then let go of the button and the closure will complete automaticaly.

Climatic Air Conditioning System Automatic Recirculation

When using the windscreen washers and and also whilst reversing, the Climatic air conditioning system automatically switches into recirculate mode to reduce strong odours entering the cabin. This feature is mentioned in the manual but here’s a little more information about it. The LED on the recirculate button does NOT illuminate but if you have the fan set to speed 2 or above you can hear it speed up. Recirculation continues for about 15 seconds after you finish using the windscreen washers.

Clean Tidy Window Wipers

If you turn off your ignition whilst the front windscreen wipers are mid way acroos the windowscreen, they will continue across the screen until parked.***

When the windscreen wipers are turned to the OFF position, the blades move about an inch further towards the bottom of the screen, beneath the bonnet line, out of view and out of the wind flow. Mk Vs with the Auto Wiper function do not need to check this it happens automatically, approximately 10 seconds after the last sweep of the windscreen.

*** This function does not apply to the rear window wiper. When restarting the car you may need to turn the rear wiper on to make it sit in the parked position.

If you would like to add anything to this list please contact using the form below, and we will add your tip or hidden feature.

Window tinting and the laws surrounding aftermarket window tints are ofter misunderstood in the UK modified car scene so its time to set a few things straight . . .

UK Window Tinting and the Law.

Current UK law (2008) states that rear side windows and the backwindow can be tinted to any darkness as required. Tinting of the windscreen must allow at least 75% light transmission. This is 70% in the case of the front side windows. At present this is not checked at the MOT but if stopped by the police you could be fined or as a cheaper alternative asked to remove the film on the roadside. It doesnt matter what option you choose you will still have to remove them so I personally would opt for the removal at the roadside and skip the FINE process.

You can download the full guide below. This has been produced by the UK Veichle and Operator Services Agency, commonly known as VOSA.

 Download Guide

*This guide has been produced in PDF format by overpaid idiots who in their spare time like to go train spotting. You will need to install another program on your machine known as Adobe Reader. We are sorry for the inconvenience caused by the incompetent staff at VOSA (UK).
