1995 VW polo engine cutting out?
My Polo keeps cutting out at random times, I can be driving along without changing gears and it will just randomly stop, or at traffic lights etc. There is a code that shows up on the milage display when the ignition is turned on before starting the car, it read "IN 02". I have wrote down some possibilities that the boyfriend have thought of.

A) Petrol pump / fuel starvation (Does not feel as "juddery" as a normal stall)
B) Catalytic converter
C) Valve blockage
D) Coil Pack (but the engine can cut out when still cold, usually it has to warm before these can cut it out)
E) Immobiliser problems

sometimes the car can be hard to start aswell.

Any ideas guys??

Thankyou :)

Re: 1995 VW polo engine cutting out? NI 01 NI 02 Fault Code
The 01 and 02 messages are telling you that it needs a service IIRC 01 is just an intermediate(oil and filter) and 02 is for other fluid changes. They come on at a pre set time(millage) but you can turn them off if you have had a service recently and the service message is out of sync.

Here you go, I found it on a back up disk, you may have to do it twice, fist time it will remove IN01 and the second time will remove IN02

TO RESET THE INDIVIDUAL INDICATOR COUNTERS:
1. Turn on ignition (do not start the car)
2. Press the trip-reset button on the odometer (the trip value will not be reset to zero but will reappear when the procedure is completed)
3. Turn off the ignition and then release the trip-reset button.

In the LCD display, you will see the display "OEL".

Using the button to set the MINUTES (lower one) of the digital clock, you will reset the OEL interval counter. Press it, hold, release. Five (5) horizontal lines will appear in the LCD display.

4. Press and release the trip-reset button

In the LCD display, you will see the display "IN01". Repeate the process under step 3 above to reset this counter when required.

5. Again press the trip-reset and reset the IN02 counter if necessary.
If doing an oil change, ONLY reset the OEL counter.
If doing the IN01 service, reset BOTH the OEL and IN01 counters.
If doing the IN02 service, reset ALL of them, the OEL, IN01 and IN02 counters.

6. Turn on ignition (do not start the car).
7. After the appearance of the "IN00" display, turn off the ignition.
8. You are done. The trip counter should read as it did before you started.

Sounds like its due for a major service to be honest, Including:

Plugs
Leads
Oil Filter
Air Filter
Fuel Filter
Pollen Filter

People often leave plugs, leads and fuel filter as they see it as an unneccasary cost, It most definately is though.
