Ford Gears Up for a Seat with Heart-Rate Monitor [Video]

Ever dreamt of a car seat that could help you in your health matters? You may be wondering what made us to ask our viewers this. Let’s make it plain.

Ford is reported to have geared up for a new car seat that features a heart-rate monitor! It can measure your pulse through the clothing from sensors on the seat back, which in turn can be used for safety systems or to instruct the driver.

Want to know how it works? The six embedded sensors connected to the seat detect electrical impulses generated by a heartbeat which will further be used to identify cardiovascular problems experienced by the customer while driving.

The project is a joint venture between Ford’s European Research and Innovation Centre in Aachen, Germany and Achen University’s Rheinisch-Westfalische Technische Hochschule (RWTH).

The technology will, no doubt, be of immense help in a scene when the number of older drivers on road appears only to increase.
